About the Tinman
Doug French was born and raised in Seattle, Washington. He has been working with sheet metal for 40 years, and he is committed to high quality, high integrity production.
He started out laying brick, block and stone for six years in Colorado before moving on to sheet metal. He returned to the Northwest to start his own shop in 1981.
He believes that a person's environment has a profound impact on their life, and he strives to ensure that his work is both highly functional and aesthetically pleasing.
In his own words:
"It sometimes rains endlessly here in the beautiful Northwest, and over the years a small leak in a building envelope can cause thousands and thousands of dollars in dry rot damage.
It’s easy to admire the tight fit, the polished shine, and the well-executed details of a custom range hood. How can you not? It’s right there in your face, the focal point of the kitchen. But is is equally satisfying to know that the little piece of flashing that I put behind a chimney is doing and will continue to do its job in keeping the water out.
I take pride in seeing the results of my work. There is also a feeling of humility and commonality, knowing that I am just one of many builders who work hard to get it right."
